Privacy policy
Wakeful keeps your health data on your iPhone. There is no Wakeful account and no Wakeful server that stores your doses, episodes or notes. We do not sell data and we do not track you across apps or websites.
This policy covers the Wakeful iPhone app and this website, trywakeful.app. It explains what stays on your device, what leaves it, and why.
Health data stays on your phone
Everything you enter in Wakeful is stored in the app on your iPhone: your night plan (dose times), dose events (taken, skipped, missed), episodes (cataplexy, sleep attacks, hallucinations, sleep paralysis) with severity, triggers and notes, naps, sleepiness scores and the reports you create.
This data is not sent to us or to any analytics or advertising company. Reports and CSV files are created on the device and only leave it when you share them yourself, for example by AirDrop or email to your doctor.
Optional iCloud backup
With Wakeful Plus you can turn on iCloud backup. Your Wakeful data is then also stored in your own private iCloud database, using Apple's CloudKit, under your Apple ID. Only you can read your private database; we cannot see or access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's privacy policy. You can turn backup off at any time in Wakeful's Settings.
Analytics and purchases
Wakeful uses two third-party services. Neither receives your health data.
- Superwall shows the Wakeful Plus upgrade screen and handles subscription status. It processes an anonymous device identifier, your purchase history (which plan, when, renewals) and how you interact with the upgrade screen, for app functionality (knowing whether you have Plus) and analytics (understanding which upgrade screens work). Payments themselves are processed by Apple; we never see your card details.
- Mixpanel receives anonymous product analytics: which screens are opened and which features are used, counted with a random identifier, plus the app version and locale. It never receives notes, trigger text, medication names or dose times.
This data is not linked to your name or email, because Wakeful never asks for them. It is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and it is not used for advertising.
Apple Health
If you allow it, Wakeful reads your sleep data from Apple Health to show it next to your doses and episodes. Wakeful never writes to Apple Health. Data read from Apple Health stays on your device and is never used for advertising or marketing or shared with third parties. You can change access in the Health app at any time.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent or trade any data.
- We do not use advertising networks or data brokers.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not send health data to analytics, advertising or any other third party.
This website
trywakeful.app is a static website. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of the request. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Your choices
- Delete a single entry by swiping left on it in the Log tab.
- Delete all on-device data by deleting the Wakeful app.
- Delete your iCloud backup in the Settings app: your name > iCloud > Manage Storage > Wakeful.
- Turn off Apple Health access in the Health app.
- Export your data as a CSV file with Wakeful Plus.
Because we do not hold your health data, there is nothing for us to export or delete on our side. For analytics data tied to a random identifier, email us and we will help you ask for its deletion.
Children
Wakeful is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Not medical advice
Wakeful is a tracking tool, not medical advice. It never suggests, calculates or changes doses. Always follow your doctor's instructions.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Wakeful handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
